Mr D J S 'Jim' Jones, Llanon
In loving memory of D J S 'Jim' Jones, Penllyn, Llanon, husband of Rhiannon and father of Shân, who sadly departed this life on Saturday 5 May 2007, aged 73 years.
Jim, the youngest of the four children of Captain and Mrs D M Jones, was born at The Croft, Llanon, in 1934. Despite travelling extensively whilst serving in the Merchant Navy, Jim never forgot his Welsh roots and returned to his home village of Llanon to marry, raise his family and live out his life.
The village always held a special place in Jim's heart and he was a respected and highly valued member of the community. An enthusiastic and devoted member of the village History Society, Jim's passion for researching village history, his unrivalled knowledge, and enthusiasm in conveying this knowledge to others, earned him the nickname of 'the sage'.
In addition to his interest in Llanon's past, Jim was actively involved in many aspects of modern village life: the billiard room, the church and the Community Council, to name but a few. His contributions and support for these organisations and committees will be missed by many.
Following his time in the Merchant Navy, Jim worked for a period at the County Council Finance Office in Aberystwyth. This was followed by a long and enjoyable 34 year career in the Finance Office of the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, where he made many long-standing friendships and witnessed the coming and going of no less than five Principals.
When not at work, and particularly during his latter retirement years, Jim could often be found wandering Llanon with his ever-present camera, recording village life, talking to his friends or enjoying a round of golf at the nearby Penrhos Golf Course.
An active, kind and sociable man, Jim will be missed not only by his surviving family - wife Rhiannon, daughter Shân and brother George - but also by the great many friends he made in all areas of his life
