Llansantffraed 1841 Tithe Maps and Schedule

The tithe survey was completed in 1841.  It consists of a list of land holders, occupiers, field numbers, name and description of lands and premises, state of cultivation, area in acres, roods and poles and amounts payable to Vicar and Appropriators.

 Extract from the summary:-

"An award of Rent Charge in liew of Tithes in the parish of Llansaintfread in the County of Cardigan was on the eighth day of July in the year One Thousand, Eight Hundred and Forty one.

And Whereas I find that all Glebe Lands of the said parish containing by estimation two acres of which lands the vicar of the said parish for the time being is the owner are by prescription or other lawful means absolutely exempt from payment of all tithes.

And whereas I find the estimated quantity in statute measure of all the tithable lands of the said parish amounts to 4380 acres which are cultivated as follows (that is to say)
1500 acres arable land. 2827 acres as meadow or pasture. 53 acres woodland

And whereas I find that the vicar of the said parish for the time being is entitled to all the tithes of corn and pulse arising from all the tithable lands situate in the Vicars Hamlet of the said parish

That the Right Honourable Ernest Augustus Earl Vaughan Lisburne of Crosswood in the County of Cardigan in....of one undivided third part of all the tithes arising from all the lands situate in the Hamlet of Wernlaeth in the said parish and to one undivided third part of all the tithes of corn and pulse arising from the lands situate in the several Hamlets of Morfa Mawr and Y Rabbit in the same parish/

And the Subchanter and Vicars Choral of the Cathedral Church of Saint David are Appropriators of all the rest of the residue of all the tithes arising from the tithable lands of the said parish

And that the Reverend John Williams of Abercarnlais in the County of Brecon, clerk, holds a lease of the said last mentioned tithes under the said Appropriators

Now know ye that I the said John Johnes do hereby award that the annual sum of £92 by way of rent charge subject to the provisions of the said act shall fall the first day of July immediately preceding the confirmation of the Apportionment of the said rent charge to be paid to the Vicar of the said parish for the time being instead of all the tithes of corn and pulse arising from all the tithable land situate in the said Vicars Hamlet

And that the further annual sum of £38 also by way of rent charge shall subject to the provisions and from the day aforesaid be paid to the said Earl Vaughan Lisburne his heirs or assigns or to the persons entitled in remainder or reversion after him instead of all the tithed hereinafter mentioned as belonging to him as Impropriation thereof

And that the further annual sum of £350 also by way of rent charge shall subject to the provisions and from the day aforesaid be paid to the said lessee his executors or assigns during the continuance of the said lease and after the expiration or other.... thereof then to the said Appropriators and their successors instead of all the rest and residue of all the tithes arising from all the tithable lands of the said parish."
